Almost 2,000 people in the US have contracted Cyclospora infections. Michigan has recorded nearly 1,000 of these, so it is the hardest-hit state so far.
Officials believe the parasite originated in fresh produce. They now examine greens, herbs as well as berries. Shoppers should wash all produce well. Cooking food can also reduce the risk too. The outbreak continues to spread quickly so checks are being increased.
