The cast of The Rookie has issued an apology for the abrupt cliffhanger ending to Season 8. Fans had been left in suspense after the final scene cut off. Creator Alexi Hawley said at Comic-Con that Season 9's first episode will be expanded past the standard run. Nathan Fillion said that filming for Season Nine gets underway on a date in early August. Meanwhile, a first look of a fresh scene recorded on the Chenford set was shared online ahead of the new season.
