Mark Carney has travelled to Europe looking to build Canada-EU ties on national security, trade and commerce, and people.
He will visit France and will attend the European Union State of address.
According to sources, he has suggested making Canada an associate member of the EU.
Carney said visa requirements and possible visa-free travel are included in the discussions.
Some commentators note the EU's positive view of Carney is no guarantee of more straightforward trade deals.
